Need some help… if ENENEWS or someone else with greater Japanese translation skills than I is reading this, there is a news item reported on a Japanese source – the original is from a German TV report. I *THINK* it is saying something like… 38,000 children in Fukushima have been tested for thyroid abnormalities, and three have had operations. According to the National Cancer Center, the norm is 0.6 people per 100,000 people. This time they tested 38,000 and found 3. That’s more than 10 times the norm.

TEPCO’s overconfidence and lack of humility blamed for Fukushima Daiichi disaster

http://enformable.com/2013/03/tepcos-overconfidence-and-lack-of-humility-blamed-for-fukushima-daiichi-disaster/

On Wednesday, officials from the Atomic Energy Society of Japan discussed the report at their annual meeting held at Kinki University in Osaka Prefecture.  The report released by the Atomic Energy Society accepted that the direct cause of the disaster was a loss of reactor cooling functions due to damage sustained by the tsunami and earthquake, but blamed overconfidence in nuclear plant safety, a lack of preparations, and a displayed lack of humility as the primary causes of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

“Sightseeing place possibly accumulates radiation from tourists’ shoes”

Posted by Mochizuki on March 30th, 2013
Shockingly, the atmospheric dose was 0.09 μSv/h in the hotel room of Kyoto. I wonder if it’s carried by the shoes of the tourists from all around Japan and the carpet accumulates it. It was about 0.05 ~ 0.06μSv/h outside.

Thyroid survey shows no major gap between Fukushima, other areas

TOKYO (Kyodo) — Thyroid conditions among juvenile population in three prefectures across Japan — Aomori, Yamanashi and Nagasaki — are not much different from those of their counterparts in Fukushima Prefecture hit by the March 2011 nuclear crisis, a recent survey by the Environment Ministry showed Friday.

The ministry conducted the study from last November to March this year on a total of 4,365 people aged 3 to 18 in the cities of Hirosaki in Aomori, Kofu in Yamanashi and Nagasaki, and concluded that the percentages of detecting small lumps and other anomalies in the surveyed population were “almost equal to or slightly lower in Fukushima.”

The percentage of lumps measuring less than 5 millimeters or cysts smaller than 20 millimeters came to 57.6 percent in Hirosaki, 69.4 percent in Kofu, and 42.5 percent in Nagasaki, it said. After the 2011 accident, Fukushima Prefecture conducted thyroid tests on about 360,000 people under 18 and found lumps and other issues in 41.2 percent, stirring anxiety.

Shunichi Yamashita, vice president of Fukushima Medical University, said the latest survey underscored the fact that “small cysts and lumps naturally exist in children when they are examined with the same precision level as in Fukushima.”

Gundersen: Image shows radioactive “thermal flare” was coming from Fukushima Reactor 3 — “Exactly where the containment should be” (VIDEO)

Source: The Medical and Ecological Consequences of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident, Day 1
Author: The Helen Caldicott Foundation
Date Presented: March 11, 2013

At 66:30 in

Arnie Gundersen, Fairewinds Energy Education: Tepco’s known about this for 2 years, but has not talked about it.

That flare right here is exactly where the containment should be, and that flare is at 128°C which means it’s not steam. Steam can’t exist over 100°C. […] At atmospheric pressure when you boil steam you’re only going to get to 100°C. That flare is at 128°C which means that it’s not steam.

It means it’s hot radioactive gases being released directly from the containment. It also means that inside the containment, it was not below the boiling of water, it was above the boiling point of water. There was no liquid water inside that containment.

This is on March 20, nine days after the accident. The containment is venting hot radioactive gases directly to the environment.

This is proof positive […] they’ve known for a long time that huge amounts of cesium were being released directly to the air because they weren’t being trapped in the water in the suppression pool.

“So how far and how fast [is the cesium traveling]? If you take a broader look at the Pacific Ocean and you look for a front of where you see the edge of the cesium moving. This goes to March 2012, about 180 degrees. This is actually based on samples, not models.”

Fuji eruption may displace 750,000

http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/03/24/national/fuji-eruption-may-displace-750000/#.UU7G3r9rhzU

SHIZUOKA – Some 750,000 residents in 14 municipalities in Yamanashi and Shizuoka would need to evacuate in the event of an eruption of Mount Fuji, which straddles both prefectures, a recent estimate shows.

The forecast was presented at a meeting Friday of a joint council of the two prefectures and Kanagawa Prefecture, which adjoins both Shizuoka and Yamanashi. The council plans to draw up evacuation plans by autumn.

The estimated number of people who would be required to evacuate is the largest, at 130,000, in Shizuoka Prefecture areas, including the city of Fuji.

The estimate was based on simulations of lava and pyroclastic flows, or a mix of high-temperature fragments of volcanic origin such as molten rocks, ash and gas, from 3,776-meter-high Mount Fuji, an active volcano.

Oh, and by the way, the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant is at A on this map. Mt. Fuji is in the upper right.

Fairewinds: Radiation release during massive power failure at Fukushima Daiichi — 24-hour outage is unconscionable, shows plant unstable

http://enenews.com/fairewinds-radioactive-contamination-released-during-massive-power-failure-fukushima-daiichi-24-hour-outage-unconscionable-shows-plant-unstable

“In December of 2011 when TEPCO announced that they had safely contained the Fukushima Daiichi plants in a cold shutdown, Arnie commented “Well, to me this announcement sounds a little bit like George Bush on the deck of the aircraft carrier declaring that the mission has been accomplished. In fact, we all know how that turned out, and I think Fukushima is going down a very similar road. This is a long battle and it is far from being over.”  Two years later, it’s still far from over. “

Rat suspected of causing power problem at Fukushima plant

TOKYO, March 20, Kyodo

The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant said Wednesday it suspects a rat-like animal of short-circuiting a switchboard before a power outage at the plant that disabled cooling systems for spent fuel pools earlier this week.

Fukushima Diary reports on this story as well:

The blackout was caused by a mouse in the panel board, the board has been left on the truck since 3/18/2011

Posted by Mochizuki on March 20th, 2013
According to Tepco, the power blackout of Fukushima plant was caused by a mouse that came in the terminals to have caused a short circuit.

The panel board was provisionally installed on the bed of a truck on 3/18/2011. Knowing the risk, Tepco has been leaving it there.

The panel board was for ractor3 and 4. There are 6 more provisional panel boards for these reactors.

The terminal and the wall were burnt and the mouse was dead underneath.

He also labeled the photos with the caption, “The entire North hemisphere was about to be lost because of a rat.”

My question is how are rats able to live in such high areas of radiation 2 years after the explosion and meltdowns of THREE NUCLEAR REACTORS????!
