Typhoon now near Chiba. NHK is showing high waves and strong winds. Rain and wind now in Yokohama and Tokyo.
NHK showing people in Tokyo with umbrellas turned inside out, useless against the wind and rain. The city is now dark, streetlights and car lights are on, so they must be right under the typhoon. A large tree has fallen over onto a street in Setagaya and has pinned a taxi underneath. Hope no one has been injured.
Although the typhoon has passed here, there are still warnings throughout western Japan to be careful of landslides and high, fast-flowing rivers.
At the moment, it is very quiet here in Nagoya, the sun is shining through the clods as it starts to set, casting a golden glow on the houses and fields, and giving us a nice present – a rainbow:
